Monday 1 April 2019

It’s April fools day, but we were hoping for no tricks. Mine challenge is just the difficulty of trying to communicate in Spanish. Sometimes, I know I have the words correct, but could well have terrible pronunciation, and I am not understood at all. Other times, I must have put a good enough sentence together to appear as if I speak Spanish quite well, then the reply sounds like a rapid gabble and I cannot understand it at all. Keep trying and do the studying, I tell myself.

The weather has improved enough for others to be sailing
Our hotel is an apartment hotel, so our room has a sitting room, with a sofa and a small dining table and chairs, and a tiny kitchen. It’s a good thing I’ve had some practice preparing meals in small kitchens, as this one beats all previous. There is a two ring electric hob, one frying pan, one saucepan and a microwave, together with a washing up basin and a fridge. We’re eating healthy but plain food, which is fine. As we’re not sure how long the hotel stay is going to go on, we’re being conservative about the daily budget, so not eating out too often. Food is cheap here and, as well as a selection of supermarkets, there’s the bakery with delicious bread, the fishmonger directly opposite the hotel and many greengrocers with superb quality fruit and veg. Having all this superb fresh produce makes it easier to just cook simply.

Today I tasked the domestic stuff, ie food shopping and laundry. Steve has been at the boat, while the second coat of anti-fowling was being put on and the repairs to the forward holding tank outlet valve continuing. Hopefully our en suite bathroom will have a working toilet this year. Things are progressing slowly but surely.
