Monday 8 April 2019
Monday morning came with little wind and we were up and
doing promptly. Two sets of the workers helping us had promised to arrive first
thing and it was a perfect morning to have people up the mast. No one came. We
are starting to understand that any statement about the future is speculative
at best and the times stated in these conversations bear no relationship to the reality.
By late morning the wind kicked in again, and it was obvious
that no further work up the mast was going to be possible for the day. We
progressed the preparations for departure with more cleaning and planning.
It is clear that the level of readiness for Easter is
increasing. There is much more activity in both the marina and the boatyard,
and the town is starting to show signs of tourists. It is evident that the school
holidays have started because there are large number of school age children at
the watersports centre in the marina. Every
so often they come past on an inflatable tube being towed by a rib. The driver
of the rib wiggles the steering every so often and there are screams as either
the kids are scared, exited or just wet, I am not sure which.
Tricia has been learning Spanish over the winter and she has
been delighting in being able to speak to the locals, who also seem pleased. I
bought some shoes today and Tricia was able to conduct the entire procedure in
Spanish, which made her in particular, very pleased. It will be my turn when we
get to Italy.
