Saturday 6 April 2019

We are slowly getting back into the routine of being on board, and for that matter writing our daily blog.  This has been helpful to us when we wanted to recall the details of individual events during our trip, but it is taking time for the writing juices to flow, especially when we have not been anywhere and like today, there is not too much to distinguish the day.

As it was the weekend, there were not going to be any outside workers with us today, but we set to with more cleaning, finishing the saloon area, which is now pristine. Some shopping and a seafront run filled the early part of the day.

While we are sailing, we have to admit to using boxes of wine. These are much more practical than bottles, and the quality of the content is significantly better than it was in the old days.  We have been looking for the larger 5 litre boxes (no we do not have a drinking problem), but while we were in the green grocers, we saw 15 litre boxes of wine, by far the largest to date.  Only a reluctance to commit to such a large amount of unknown quality, the lack of a suitable storage place and a reluctance to carry something so heavy back to the boat kept us from buying it.

We did however enjoy mussels and a ridiculously inexpensive bottle of Cava with our meal. Life is good.

The lull before the storm
One of the riggers described the weather at this time of year here as “crazy”. First thing is was completely still, but a couple of hours later we had 30 knots from the harbour mouth.  We have had to deploy our large ball fenders to protect us and the boat immediately downwind of us.  This is occupied by a single German guy, who speaks less English than I speak German.  Anyway I got a thumbs up for up for the extra protection, so although the boat is pressed by the wind, there is no reason for our boats to touch.
