Wednesday 1 May 2019
The actual 1st May is a bank holiday in Spain, rather than the first Monday of the month as in Britain. This didn’t effect us at all today, as we opted to stay in this beautiful little Cala (cove), feeling quite secure on the mooring buoy. Only two other yachts had stayed overnight and one left very early. When I got up, the area was serene and quiet; the beach empty.
We spent the morning planning the next week, around the
weather forecast and trying to make marina bookings further ahead for when
visitors arrive. This isn’t easy. The responses vary from very promptly, i.e. within 24 hours, to taking 10 days. We suspect this may be partly due to the
many national holidays here recently, but, otherwise, we have no idea why.

After lunch we inflated the tender for the first time
this year. Steve had a major triumph of getting the tender engine to work. He
followed the advise from another sailor on the quayside in Denia, and cleaned
out the carburettor. He was jubilant.
It’s great fun just taking the tender across to get us
ashore. There was a little concrete landing quay amongst the rocks, so we
didn’t have to land on the packed beach. The hamlet has hotels, apartments,
several restaurants and a supermarket. It’s a lovely spot for holiday makers.
There’s a dive school and you can hire SUP boards. We couldn’t walk far, only
having flip-flops on, so doing some reasonable exercise will have to wait.
It’s been a lovely relaxing day to recoup after the sail
yesterday and we feel really pleased to have used the tender, if only to go to
buy bread. We are getting to be more independent, not having relying on being
in a marina most nights.
