| The offending rope fragment |
The alarm was on this morning as the riggers were due. They would leave Palma at 7:00 and take an hour to get to us. They duly arrived and we explained the various problems that we had. I am not sure if they initially understood that the jammed roller in the Furler Boom was the biggest issue. They set to, running the replacement lines via the channels under the deck, and only fully engaged with the scale of the challenge when they tried to thread the new line through the channel in the boom. They tried various methods to rotate the boom, including putting a fair amount of weight on the "mousing" line, but to no avail. We explained what the manufactures had said, and eventually persuaded them that we had to partially dismantle the boom.We did this, and this then allowed the roller to turn enough to get the sail off it, and then we could really move forwards. We opened up the furling mechanism and found a remnant of the previous line firmly embedded and causing the blockage. Once removed and reassembled all was good. The 2 lovely guys spliced the new furling line, fixed another minor problem, and were then on their way. They had been with us for 3 hours, but we now have the problems fixed and a more detailed understanding of the inner workings of a part of the boat. We will be better equipped to deal with it the next time.
We were ready to depart by midday, the usual chucking out time in a marina, and so set off for the journey we had started 2 days before. It was a baking hot day, and totally cloudless. We had a good sail initially, but eventually the wind dropped and we had to motor the last few miles.
We have anchored in the beautiful Cal de San Vincente, right at the north of the island. Beautiful that is, if you cannot see the hotel that has been built here. we have anchored in a spot where it is hidden from our view by a small headland
