A fairly brief blog today covering both yesterday and today.
We are deep into the preparations for the arrival of our
crew and the journey on to Sardinia. I’ll
spare you the details but much of the time has been on cleaning, maintenance
and shopping. Yesterday we were back and
forth to the laundry facilities in the marina (much to the annoyance of one of the
other boat owners, who thought he was going to put his washing in, when we were
still putting in our second load). There is only one washer and one dryer.
Today we were up early again to go to the supermarket in
Mahon for sufficient supplies to last until the end of next week with 5 people
on board. We had plenty of time to do
this within the schedule bus times, so we walked further around the town and
did some other shopping. While all this was happening a little rain fell. Fortunately we did not get wet. First rain in days, probably weeks.
As we had landed outside the marina office from our
anchorage this morning, I was surprised to see another guy there waiting to use
the steps down to the water. He did not
seem to have a dinghy. Once we had cleared out of the way, he descended the
ladder and proceeded to wade across to the small island opposite. He said that
he was going there to study the lizards, and even on our return, I could seem
him moving about with a camera in his hand.
When not working yesterday, we were kept amused by watching
the port theatre of boats trying to find a space large enough to anchor and
then actually making their anchor hold. One boat went around and tried at least
6 different times, with varying degrees of success. He did eventually manage it.
Our other pastime has been planning how to attend the
festivities of the feast of Sant Joan in Cuitadella. We thought we were going to miss these, but
have now found that they are on the actual Saints day, rather than the nearest
weekend. We have worked out how we will be able to get there using various
combinations of transport. Much more of
this to follow over the next few days I am sure.
