We were on a tight time schedule to get all the
outstanding tasks done before we would have to leave. Most marinas expect you
to be gone by midday.
We were still in need of more exercise though, so the
alarm went off early enough for us to go for a run along the coastal path.
Along the way we passed a statue of Admiral David Glasgow
Farragut, of the USA navy, a highly decorated man, who, amongst other many
achievements was in charge of the Mediterranean fleet in the 1800’s and had
been given freedom of the city of Cuidadella.
We managed to fit in a visit to the fish market, bakery
and the chandlery, to buy camping gas. All cleaned up, and much happier we are
better supplied, full of fuel and water, we slipped lines a little after 11.00.
We were relieved to not entangle ourselves round the lazy lines, as one of the
other boats had done a few minutes earlier.
The north west corner of Menorca was just as choppy as
when we came this way last week, but this time we had wind, so we could cut
through the 1.5 metre plus waves much more easily.
Our destination today was Cala de Algerens, on the north
coast, where we have been before and wanted to return. There were only two
other yachts at anchor, off the golden sandy beach, when we arrived mid
afternoon.
After two days of busy activity we happy to relax for the
rest of the afternoon, in this tranquil bay.
Our evening entertainment was the arrival of a rather
large motor cruiser, which we had seen moored outside a Cala on the south coast
two days ago, and which Steve had described as looking like a frigate. They
took quite a while choosing their spot just outside us and we have enjoyed
watching the activity of the crew, in their white uniforms, cleaning and
launching a tender with a crane, for the guests to go ashore. We’re waiting for
James Bond to appear at any moment. Still, with the huge differences we have in
our situation, we have enjoyed the same amazing pink sky as the sun set.
