A run around the harbour, in the morning, allowed me to
do a recce of the small town. At 8:00am, the place was already busy with people
having breakfast or buying tickets for the day tripper boats.
It is a very dramatic and beautiful setting. The shops
were excellent, but expensive. We topped up the food supplies. It’s the first
time I’ve found broccoli since we left Spain. The bakery was great, as you
would expect in France, as was the charcuterie.
The boat on our starboard side had left early in the
morning. There was a small charter boat moored on our port side, with a crew of
very nice Swiss youngsters. The lady skipper was most polite and we agreed to
wait until after they had left before we departed, as this would make getting
out of this very tight space a little easier. They duly left shortly after mid
day. We still needed the help of the marinaros to help us out, but boats were
pouring in. The disorganisation of the marina staff, meant we waited almost an
hour to get out. Who would have thought that allowing a boat to vacate a spot would help make space for the new arrivals.
All in all, we were happy to leave Bonifacio, and then we
had a cracking sail back across the Bonifacio strait to a pretty cala on the
west side of Isola Spargi, one of the Maddalena islands. It was a small cala
with a beach at the head, which I suspect was only accessible from the
sea. Suddenly we are in an area of a lot of boats out sailing, reminiscent of
the Solent in summer.
We could relax and enjoy the scenery in the evening,
although the east wind still came through to us. We were happy our anchor was
secure, allowing us not to worry overnight.
